World Kindness Day
This week sees World Kindness Day... how lovely! When we think of being kind, we immediately think of kindness to others but what if we thought about being kind to ourselves too? We are a source of love and strength for our families and being kind to ourselves sets a powerful example for our children.
Our children be kind to themselves is the dream.
This example to them is probably one of the best things we can do for their future.
So let's dive in...
"The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice." - Peggy O'Mara
And the way we were spoken to may be ours.
We can't change how we were raised but acknowledging it can often be the start we need if the narrative needs tweaking.
ACTIVITY IDEA
PROMOTE KINDNESS
Kindness is a skill to be taught, something that needs practice, and something to be reinforced... not easy but definitely something that will make us feel better and something we can all improve, no matter what our age.
Our words can have the most impact and a good so it's great to talk through why it's so important to think before we speak. Words can deeply affect other so choosing thoughtful and considerate language creates a positive and respectful environment.
You could use the popular "THINK" acronym as a good guide to practice before speaking:
T - is it True?
H - Is it Helpful?
I - Is it inspiring?
N - Is it Necessary?
K - Is it Kind?
The golden rule is, if it's none of these things, then don't say it!
